The Quirky Lessons Lubbock Teaches Its Residents
Living in Lubbock doesn’t change you all at once. It works slowly, quietly, like wind erosion on your personality.
One day, you wake up and realize you are not the same person you were before this place got its hands on you.
Our Weather
First, Lubbock turns you into a weather realist. We don't believe in forecasts here. We believe in vibes. You walk outside, squint at the sky, and that tells you everything you need to know about what to wear. However, you must keep a jacket in your car year-round, as trusting the weather here is a rookie mistake. (This coming weekend, for example, is going to be a disaster.)
Our Low-Maintenance Lifestyle
It also turns you into a low-maintenance adult. You learn that not everything needs to be perfect to be fine. Constant wind-blown hair, dust on your car, a little grit in your life, whatever. You’ve survived worse. You’ll eat cold leftovers standing at the counter like everyone else, and you'll like it.
BTW: I chose a photo of a cactus, because, well, it doesn't get more low-maintenance than that...
Our Patience is a Virtue
Lubbock makes you suspiciously good at waiting. There's not much else to do here but wait for something to happen. Wait for traffic. Wait for Christmas. Wait for your ex to get his life together. Whatever it is. You develop a deep, spiritual patience that only comes from knowing you’re not in control and never really were.
You Better Not Talk Bad
You also become fiercely defensive of this place. You’re allowed to complain about Lubbock, but outsiders are STRICTLY forbidden. The second someone says, “there’s nothing to do there,” you suddenly have a list, a tone, and several strong opinions they probably don't feel like listening to.
We Laugh Through It All
Most of all, Lubbock turns you into someone who finds humor in inconvenience. Around here, we just laugh at the chaos. Because, well, what else can you do? And somewhere between the dust storms and the sunsets, you realize this place didn’t just toughen you up. It taught you how to adapt, lower your expectations in healthy ways, and keep going anyway.
Am I on-brand or what?
