Things Every Lubbock 90s Kid Thought Were Fancy

Did you grow up in Lubbock in the 90s? Like me, you probably had a VERY different definition of what "fancy" meant around here.

It had pretty much zero to do with expensive clothes or gadgets. Fancy was more about whatever was just out of reach, like the places your parents only took you on special occasions, or the tiny luxuries that made you feel like you were living the high life.

Looking back, some of them are pretty hilarious...

Going to Red Lobster

That was some top-tier fancy stuff right there! Nothing says "Let's celebrate!" like getting dressed up to stuff cheddar biscuits in your mouth and wave at the lobsters waiting for their demise in the tank by the hostess booth.

RIP lobsters. Gone but never forgotten.

Staying At A Hotel With Your Friends

If your parents booked a hotel with a pool for your birthday party, you were 100% the fanciest kid at school. Being invited to those parties also made you fancy by default, so shout-out to the homies who invited me to theirs!

This is the biggest one for me.

I was the lucky kid with all the channels. I remember my friends being SO excited to watch TV at my house. I felt very fancy. Thanks, Mom and Dad!
