Lubbock Animal Shelter Has Plenty Of Chickens Looking For New Homes

One of these days, I'm going to get it together and start raising chickens. They are wonderful animals- they eat pests like ticks, eat kitchen scraps, provide fertilizer for gardens, and, of course, all those free eggs!

Lubbock Animal Shelter Has Adoptable Chickens

The Lubbock Animal Shelter recently posted that they have "tons" of chickens available that were owner-surrendered. They also mentioned it was no fault of the chickens, so I'm glad to know the chickens are not career criminals or otherwise evil, although that second one is giving me some side-eye.

The Rules For Chickens In Lubbock

The caveat of claiming one or some of these chickens is that you do have to follow certain city ordinances for keeping chickens. If you live inside city limits, you can have up to 6 hens* and no roosters (they are a noise nuisance). The Joy of Raising Chickens In Lubbock

I have a few friends who keep backyard chickens, and they love these animals like pets. I am particularly fond of a hen named Danny Devito, who is really a girl. There are many benefits to owning chickens; however, you'll also want to make sure you have the time/ stamina to clean out their coops daily, and the resources to keep them fed and properly sheltered. But from what I've seen, the chickens will "pay you back" for all your hard work with food, love, and adorable antics.
