Lubbock has been growing like crazy over the years. It looks nothing like it did when I was a kid. New restaurants are popping up all over, old ones are disappearing, and every couple of weeks someone on Facebook declares something like, "Lubbock just isn't the same as it used to be."

And you know what? They're right. It isn't the same.

But there are a few things I hope never change...

I hope Lubbock never loses the small-town feeling. I don't really understand how we have it at all. We are actually huge, and even still, you can't go anywhere in town without running into at least one person you know. It's impossible.

I also hope people keep taking care of eachother and showing up for eachother when it counts. Fundraisers. Local businesses. You know what I mean. We go above and beyond to help not only our friends and families here, but also perfect strangers.

I hope we never get too cool to wave at people we don't know, or make small talk with clerks at checkout.

I hope we keep our sense of humor. We certainly aren't afraid to make fun of ourselves. Let's keep laughing together.

And, I really hope that despite all of the big changes, Lubbock still feels like home to us all.

It's still our town.

It's not perfect. It doesn't have to be.

It's home.

Change is cool and all, but some things are worth keeping exactly the way they are.
