The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a suspect has confessed to the murder of Katrina Castillo.

20 year-old Xavier Garcia (pictured below) has been charged with the murder of Castillo. Garcia was named as a person of interest in the case on Wednesday. The warrant did not describe what led to her death, it just said that Garcia had confessed stabbed her in the 4200 block of East 2nd Street.

Castillo’s body was found in the backyard Monday evening by the Sheriff’s Office.

Garcia is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond.

The cause of death has been released for 20-year-old Katrina Castillo.

Wednesday evening, the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was "multiple sharp force injuries," and the manner of death was homicide. A murder weapon was not listed.

The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office confirmed that they're questioning a person of interest in connection with Castillo's murder. Twenty-year-old Xavier Garcia (pictured below) was arrested Tuesday and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in an unrelated case. KAMC News first reported that Garcia was being questioned about Castillo's murder. 


ORIGINAL STORY

On Monday, Feb. 5 around 4:30 p.m., homeowners called the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office about a female body they discovered lying in the backyard of their house near East 2nd Street and Peach Avenue. When deputies arrived, they confirmed that the female was deceased.

Tuesday evening, local authorities discovered a blue GMC Envoy with a license plate registered to Castillo near an apartment complex at 50th Street and Bangor Avenue. Officers reportedly completed a search of the vehicle, but no new information has been released since.
