Living in Lubbock teaches you a thing or two about resourcefulness. Some people might call it ingenuity. I prefer calling it "making questionable decisions with way too much confidence."

When problems arise, there's a good chance these five solutions will do the trick:

1. Ask Your Uncle

It doesn't really matter what the problem is. Calling your uncle will save you a convo with your dad. It's more than likely that your uncle won't harp on you for being in a stupid situation in the first place, the way your dad always does.

Need a fence fixed? Roof patched? Hear a weird noise in your truck?

These are all problems your uncle can solve. Plus, all he wants in return is a cold Dr Pepper, and maybe a Whopper from Burger King. He will also get some satisfaction out of you calling him before you called his brother (your dad). He can lord it over him forever.

2. Use Something For A Job It Was Never Intended For

West Texans can turn basically anything into a tool in a pinch.

Wrench = Hammer

Chair = Ladder

Cinder Block = Doorstop

Tailgate = Table

You get the gist.

3. Secure It With Duct Tape

Duct tape is more of a philosophy than a product in West Texas.

It's holding our cars, lawn chairs, boots, remote controls, and lives together.

We've all got it. We all use it.

If duct tape doesn't fix the problem, you're probably just not using enough. Try harder.

4. Gather A Few Friends To Stand Around and Discuss It For Far Too Long

It doesn't matter what the problem is. Call up a couple of friends, stand around staring at it, and before too long, the job will be done.

I usually add beer to the equation to lure the right people over for the job.

5. Just Hit It Until It Starts Working Again

This is the most traditional repair method in West Texas. Most of us use it at least once a day.

Ice maker acting up? Hit it.

Remote control buttons stuck? Hit it.

Rattle under the hood? Hit it.

There's no data as to why this method works. It just does. Don't question it. Just thank God you can finally watch the season finale of Survivor.

The Real Truth

You can always find someone (or something) to help you out when you really need it in Lubbock. Whether you're stuck on the side of the road, having issues with your cable, or your A/C is on the fritz, the solution isn't far away.
