Lubbock Don’t Miss Out On The 2023 West Texas Winter Classic
We are still in the middle of Winter and that can only mean one thing, the West Texas Winter Classic is back in town. Some of you, if not a lot of you, may not actually know what that is and even though it may sound like a cool car show or even like some kind of race it's actually for the birds.
The West Texas Winter Classic Poultry Show is where many will be bringing their prized poultry in an attempt to win certain categories. Think of it as that hit show Toddler's & Tiara's but for poultry, minus the talent portion of the competition. Entry is currently closed but it is a great opportunity to see different types of breeds and even get some possible connections to buy eggs since they are expensive.
This show will be judged and sanctioned according to the rules in the APA (American Poultry Association) and ABA (American Bantam Association). This is an opportunity for those who don't know a lot about poultry to get out there and ask people who have been doing this for a long time some questions. There will also be geese and heavy waterfowl at this show, for those afraid of geese due to being chased by one in a park as a child.
This show is set to start at 9 a.m. and last until about 3 p.m. at the South Plains Fair grounds on January 28. There might be some birds for sale after the show but it's not guaranteed, if you do purchase any birds just remember the simple rules if it's your first time buying poultry.
