Many things in life start free...and then end up costing you a whole lot more than you were expecting. Every Lubbock family has accepted something for free that eventually cost them a few bucks. Think about it.

What starts as a blessing can quickly become a curse if you aren't careful.

Here are 6 free things you'll find in Lubbock that can really do a number on your wallet.

1. Free Puppy

Congratulations. Your free puppy comes with food bills, vet bills, and a lifetime of finding your socks in places they don't belong!

Seriously, though, taking home a puppy or kitten is a commitment. I don't know if you've noticed, but a lot of people aren't doing their part when it comes to pets. Otherwise, we wouldn't have an influx of puppies and kitties that desperately need families in our shelters! Go adopt them! And please, SPAY AND NEUTER!

2. A Trampoline

A free trampoline sounds great until you're lying in a hospital bed. Might be a good idea to buy some things new.

3. A Used Pickup Truck

Listen. There is nothing I love more than an old pickup truck...BUT, if it's FREE, there is likely a very good reason. That truck is about to cost you an arm, a leg, and maybe even your marriage.

This is a hard one for some of us to process, my father included.

You don't need the free "project" truck.

4. An Above-Ground Pool

Ever see someone try to get rid of one of these? Of course it's free. There's no way you'll ever get it put back together properly. I can tell you first-hand that above-ground pools are the biggest pain in the booty, and I bought a new one. It was a nightmare. I can't imagine putting together someone else's old sad pool mistake.

Even free, this one is going to cost you. 10/10, not worth it.

 5. A Couch From The Alley

Free couch of unknown origin. Nothing could go wrong.

I've taken home one too many of these. I'll save you the gruesome details.

Just buy a new one...or sit on the floor.

Beg bugs are major ick.

6. Exercise Equipment

What could be bad about a free set of weights? Free stationary bike?

The equipment may be free, but the guilt you'll feel walking by it every single day is priceless...especially when you pass the mirror...on your way to the fridge.

What's the last thing you brought home for free that ended up costing you? I love chatting with my readers! Hit me up at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com and let's keep the convo going.
