Lubbock Friendships Are Just Vibes and Shared Trauma

If you guys are anything like me, your friendships in Lubbock don't usually start with intention. They just sort of happen. You meet them once, realize neither of you is a meanie, and suddenly, you've known each other for ten years.

How Friendships Begin

Most friendships in Lubbock begin in one of three places: work, school, or a friend-of-a-friend type of situation. You exchange a few words, find common ground in complaining about the same thing together, and that's it. You're locked in. No formal agreement. No paperwork. Just friendship vibes for eternity.

Tight Bonds

Once a real friendship is formed, you may not talk for weeks, sometimes even months, but the friendship never really seems to end. There's no falling out, no need for a closure conversation, and no dramatic follow-up BS. You just pick up where you left off like nothing ever happened, because, well, nothing did.

Low-Maintenance Frienships

I don't know if it's Lubbock-specific, but it really feels like friendships around here don't require much maintenance. It's more about proximity. You don't need to text each other constantly or share daily life updates. You just know things about each other's lives through osmosis or something. (Social media, rather.)

Nothing Taken Too Seriously

Plans are more or less like loose suggestions in Lubbock. "We should hang out" isn't a lie. It's much more like a promise with no real deadline. Everybody seems to understand, and nobody takes it personally. Life happens. You're tired after work. Everyone gets it. Sweatpants are way better than a night at the bar to most of us.

Forever Pals

Somehow, years later, you're still friends with the girl you met in 4th grade by the water fountain, or the guy who sat behind you in band, or the coworker at your first job. I also have about a thousand friends in Facebook-land that I've never even met that I'm pretty sure I'd take a bullet for.

Sometimes, you're not even entirely sure how you know each other, or what you even have in common anymore, but it works, and in Lubbock, that's enough.
