Lubbock Give Back: Here’s How To Help Local Nonprofits In Need

Giving back and helping others is something we should always be doing, but if you’re wanting to help out a little extra during this holiday season, here‘s how.

Lots of Lubbock nonprofits are in need, especially after the hard year and a half of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some nonprofits you can help and what they do for the community as a whole.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels’ 3rd Annual Senior Secret Santa program kicks off on November 10th. They let their clients make a wish list and the community helps adopt a LMOW client to help shop for their Christmas list. After you shop, you return all the items to the group by November 29th and the elves there will bag them up to get them ready to be delivered. They have 800 clients in need. Come by 2304 34th Street or call 806-792-7971.

CASA of the South Plains is asking the community for Walmart gift cards so they can give them to their children in foster care for Christmas. This will allow them to pick out their own new gift since they rarely get to or purchase gas if there is a need to travel during the holiday season. If you want to donate, you can mail them or drop them off at their office, located at 1215 Ave. J, Suite 300 in Lubbock or call 806-763-2272. 

United Supermarkets: 

• Lubbock Meals on Wheels Easy as Pie: People can donate money to LMOW and receive a free pie coupon to use for themselves.
• Giving Tuesday: You can donate at any of their registers for Giving Tuesday which begins on November 29th and will go through the week.
• U Can Share: This kicks off in early December with another week-long donation at the register campaign.

East Lubbock Art House has a community fridge for people to come to get food if they need it. They are also asking people to donate to the fridge. They accept non-perishables, fruits, vegetables, and bottled drinks. They are located at
405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Suite B. Lubbock, TX 79403.

Lubbock Animal Services’ 5th Annual Helping Paws Donation Drive starts on Thanksgiving for both animals and humans. Everything collected will go to low-income and homeless folks near Christmas. They are asking for dog food, cat food, beds, blankets, treats and toys. Along with coats, sweaters, socks and personal care items. The drop-off locations that are participating are Pets Plus, Pets Supplies Plus, Tractor Supplies (off of I-27) and Gebo’s. They are also taking donations at LASl. The time frame for donations is 11/14-12/16. After we have collected everything we will be able to pass out on 12/22.

The Salvation Army has their The Red Kettle Campaign is going on now until December 24th from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at various locations.

Unpack Ministries is putting together a shop for their kids to shop for their mothers for Christmas. They’re asking people to donate new items that these kiddos can pick out for their moms and/or dads, along with teacher gifts and stockings for their moms to give their kids. Each lady will receive a "stocking" valued at about $300 per woman and Unpack has about 45 women in their group. Open Door is in need of coffee, powdered creamer, oatmeal, gloves, hand warmers, and beanies for people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

The Inside Out Foundation is in need of gift cards, ideally in $25 increments, to places like Walmart, Target, United, etc. You can call 806-722-0750 or drop them off at their location, 4630 50th St, Ste 500, Lubbock, TX on Wednesdays from 12 p.m.- 6 p.m.

Texas Girls & Boys Ranch has a Christmas Drive and angel trees going on. You can find those locations at Red Barn Ranch, Abuelos, Haute House Waxing, Terra Bella Salon, Dea Ja Ve Salon and City Bank. They are needing these by December 12th.
