1. Not Every Type of Business Qualifies

Certain businesses are not allowed to be run from home. Retail, vehicle repair, kennels, welding services, and several others are specifically prohibited, so make sure you read the fine print before you open for customers.

2. Your Business Can't Take Over The Entire House

Your home business generally can't take up more than 400 square feet, or 25% of your home's floor area, whichever is less.

3. You Can't Turn Your House Into An Office Building

Only people who live in your home may work for your home occupation.

4. Don't Expect A Huge Business Sign

In Lubbock, exterior signs and other visible indications of a home business are not allowed. You can't even advertise anything that includes the property business address.

5. Merchandise Stays Inside

Outdoor storage or displays are not allowed.

6. Don't Create Neighborhood Chaos

You can get yourself into trouble if your home business creates excessive smoke, odors, noise, vibrations, parking problems, or traffic congestion in your neighborhood. Your neighbors should not have to come together to petition to get rid of you, so please be courteous.

7. You May Need Other Permits

Lubbock's rules say that your home business has to comply with other applicable laws and obtain all the proper state and federal permits before operation.
