Friday, June 21st, marks the first day of astrological summer. With the hot weather comes the sight and sounds of ice cream trucks throughout Lubbock neighborhoods.

Local NBC affiliate KCBD Newschannel 11 reporter Sydney Kessler recently did an investigative story in which questions were raised about whether or not ice cream truck vendors were operating legally, and holding the proper permit for such businesses.

According to the story, there are some operators who are not complying with the regulations established by the City of Lubbock.

The story has sparked a mixture of responses on social media, ranging from the absurd to supporting the effort to raise awareness that some operators of ice cream trucks are not doing so legally, and therefore should be subject to scrutiny.

Even though it may seem absurd for this to be a story, it's important to remember that part of the permitting process involves a background check on individual drivers to ensure the safety of the children and families to which they serve cold sweet treats.
