Chances are pretty high that you've come across a booth somewhere around town set up by Freedom Act Lubbock, a group of local activists who are doing their best to collect signatures for a petition to decriminalize weed in our city. The Texas Tribune reported Lubbock is one of the most populated cities in Texas with residents working to change local laws regarding everyone's favorite plant.

This might come as a bit of a surprise to outsiders who only associate Lubbock with a straight-laced-Bible-belt city. It's not all black and white here. We've got a massive university and tons of young people who are really trying to change this place for the better.

Wouldn't it be crazy if Lubbock actually became the first major city in Texas to completely decriminalize weed by petition?

It would really put us on the map in a big way, and of course, it would free up our local law enforcement officers so that they could focus on much more important things. Our crime rate has gotten pretty out of control lately. Lubbock currently ranks among the top 10 most dangerous cities in Texas.

If you haven't signed the petition yet, you still have time! Your final chance to sign your name is on Saturday, October 14th at Mano Negra Brewing Co. You can also follow Freedom Act Lubbock on Facebook for more information, or visit their website to find out where they will be taking signatures next.

Good luck, guys. You know Lubbock's number one morning show, The RockShow, supports you all the way!
