A Lubbock man endangered the lives of others, including the lives of his girlfriend and a child when he attempted to flee from Lubbock police.

The incident began Saturday, March 6, when a Lubbock police officer noticed a vehicle driving erratically in the 8200 block of University Avenue.

When an attempt to pull the vehicle over failed, the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Harvey Young, took off and led multiple officers on a chase through Lubbock.

At one point during the chase, a police report states that Young instructed his girlfriend to jump from the moving vehicle, but it has not been explained exactly why he wanted her to.

At another point in the chase, police lost sight of Young's pickup, but soon found it crashed and abandoned in the 8000 block of Akron Avenue.

Officers searched the immediate area and were able to locate Young and his girlfriend trying to flee the scene. They also found a child with them who confirmed to police that Young was the one driving.

Police say that Young may have intentionally crashed the vehicle as a distraction so that all three of them could get away. A police report says that all three jumped from the vehicle just before it crashed in an alley and struck a gas line.

Harvey was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, abandonment and endangerment of a child, evading in a vehicle, and for theft of a firearm.

He is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $40,000.
