This week is fair week in Lubbock County, and the Lubbock Police Department has issued a warning to make sure that nobody makes the same mistake one teenager made.

Police responded to calls this past Saturday that a teenager was walking around the South Plains Fair with a gun in his waistband. It turned out to be an airsoft gun with its orange tip removed.

It should go without saying that nothing in the way of a weapon should be brought to a public event like the South Plains Fair, especially in the wake of tragic mass shootings across the country.

Parents, if you have kids with toy guns, be sure to remind them that the orange tip is there for a reason, and it might just save them from being mistaken for a person with the intent to cause harm to others.
