Lubbock Sweet Spot With Important Mission To Close- But There Is A Happy Ending
No one wanted Howdy's Ice Cream to close in Lubbock. In fact, Lubbock recently rallied around the business in a big way. A Facebook post spread like wildfire, there were articles written about it, and people showed up in a big way to buy ice cream and support this business. Because this business is more than just ice cream- it is a mission to uplift and support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Giving folks the opportunity to work builds confidence and life skills. It also helps these people help their families. It's important and this community absolutely believes in it, as we recently proved. However, Howdy's will still close. But don't be sad! There is a happy ending here.
The name Howdy's will be gone for good, and the business itself will close temporarily on September 2nd, per a Facebook post by Champion's Creamery- the new name of the business. Sometimes rebranding is a big risk- but if you ask J's Creamery (formerly Sheridan's), it can be a minor hiccup that leads to bigger and better things. Seriously, have you seen the line there?
The biggest news? Champions Creamery is converting to a non-profit model and will expand its mission to include Special Olympics. Here is the whole post, you might want a tissue, and it is very heartwarming:
Lubbock, I know you will continue to support this incredibly important mission that is especially close to my heart, so I want to thank you in advance for doing so. Excuse me while I go get those tissues.
