The People Who Quietly Keep Lubbock Running
There's an army of folks in Lubbock who never make the headlines or the evening news for the things they do to keep this big'ole ship from sinking. They quietly go about their business without much recognition when they really deserve a trophy and a bouquet.
Lubbock Folks Who Deserve Big Thanks
School crossing guards keep kids safe each day, rain or shine. Linemen often crawl out of bed before sunrise to fix power outages. Sanitation workers show up every single week, no matter the season, to keep our city clean and beautiful.
Then, we have nurses. They finish up long overnight shifts while the rest of us are just putting a pot of coffee on. Mechanics work their buns off to keep police cars, ambulances, and farm equipment running properly. Grocery stockers spend hours refilling empty shelves, only to do it all over again the next day. Road crews risk their lives building better streets while people ignore speed limit signs and fly by them.
There are SO many people behind the scenes that don't get nearly enough love. Dispatchers, calmly taking emergency phone calls, janitors who clean up after our messes, and volunteers who feed the homeless and help us make it through hard times, definitely make that list.
What do these jobs have in common?
None of them are glamorous. Not by a long shot.
But, one day without these people? We'd certainly notice in a hurry.

We are so quick to celebrate grand openings, big achievements, and sports championships that we often forget to celebrate the people who simply show up and do their jobs well, never asking for applause. They just do what they do, and this wagon keeps on rollin' down the road.
We see you, and we appreciate you. Thank you for doing what you do. We couldn't get by without you.
