To me, Lubbock's Skooners (1617 University) is a lot like the mythical 'Cheers'- it's a place you go with some certainty that you'll see an old friend and make some new ones. I have literal years of memories at 'Skoon-tangs'- from raucous karaoke nights, to times spent being the supportive and loving drunk girl in the bathroom -or receiving that unique and awesome spontaneous human connection.

Skooners has a very special place in my heart, and in the hearts of many because it was the resident bar of the late great David Trout for many years. Hot Damn! Cold Beer! I know that guy is currently living in up in Valhalla. And I'm still grateful to him for adding The Highwaymen to his enormous book of songs and the request of me and my friends.

Skooners is celebrating 20 years of those sacrosanct traditions- whether its your billiards place, your karaoke place or simply just your place.  Saturday, September 15th it's an all-day celebration:
