Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells said last week that he wouldn't stop adding talent to the roster until the roster was full. Turns out he wasn't messing around.

Wells recently added LSU safety Eric Monroe, Michigan State linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle and Alabama running back Chadarius Townsend. Wells also added defensive lineman Tyree Wilson from Texas A&M after camp started.

I haven't even mentioned the multiple JUCO All-Americans Wells added to the defense.

The new-look Texas Tech got even fresher over the weekend with the addition of the active leader in TFLs in the FBS Colin Schooler. The three-year starter and three-time All-Pac 12 honoree from the University of Arizona will be immediately eligible for the Red Raiders at linebacker.

As a freshman, Schooler was the Pac 12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year and was a Freshman All-American. Since then, he's recorded at least 90 tackles each season, with 119 in 2018.

Not only can Schooler tackle, but also picked off four passes and forced two fumbles in 37 career games at Arizona. He must have made an impression on Matt Wells as an opponent. In Arizona's game against Texas Tech in 2019, Schooler finished with eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

After the game, Wells singled out Schooler and shook his hand, saying, "You're a hell of a player."

The Red Raiders are less than two weeks from kicking off the 2020 season on Sept. 12th against Houston Baptist. Kickoff time and television coverage for that game will likely be announced by the Big 12 office in the coming days.
