Measles Return To Texas: Do You Have Symptoms?
Two cases of measles were confirmed in Houston last week, and since they are HIGHLY contagious, it might be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the symptoms, especially if you aren't vaccinated.
Measles spreads through the air. You don't even have to rub up on someone to catch it, which makes things much worse. Measles can live up to 2 hours in the airspace where an infected person has coughed or sneezed. When other people breathe the air or touch a tainted surface and then touch their nose, mouth, or eyes, they too can become infected.
Measles has pretty terrible side effects, some of which are lifelong. They can cause complications in the body as well as the brain, and can even cause death.
Here are the symptoms you should look out for:
- A fever of 101 degrees or higher
- A rash that lasts more than 3 days, typically beginning at the hairline and then progressing down the body
- Cough
- Conjunctivitis in the eyes
- Runny nose
- Bluish-white spots in the back of your mouth or a red-rose background
So, why are people getting measles now?
Well, they were declared gone back in 2000, but something changed. People decided to stop listening to medical advice from their doctors and instead opt out of incredibly important vaccines.
It's asinine. Don't be stupid. Get vaccinated.
Measles is preventable, folks. I highly recommend getting vaccinated against them. Please, do a service to yourself, your family, and everyone who comes into contact with you and put a stop to them before they start with a simple vaccine. Vaccinations are our best defense.
