At least one member of the Navy’s SEAL Team 6 will plead guilty for their role in the death of Army Staff Sergeant Logan Melgar.

Melgar was a 34-year-old Lubbock native, a Frenship High School graduate, and a U.S. Army Green Beret staff sergeant. He was serving in Bamako, Mali at the time of his death on June 4th, 2017.

Multiple news outlets reported in November that at least two Navy SEALs and two Marines were being charged with involuntary manslaughter for Melgar’s death.

Prosecutors say the four men broke into Melgar’s room, tied him down with duct tape and then strangled him at one point using a choke hold. It's not clear if Melgar's death was intentional or accidental.

As part of a plea deal, Navy Chief Petty Officer Adam Matthews is expected to plead guilty on Thursday for charges of hazing, assault, burglary, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. In exchange, prosecutors will drop the charge of involuntary manslaughter.

So far, no official motive has been given in Melgar’s death.
