I've been here a long, long time. Decades. I guess I just never noticed that fireworks were available before Christmas.

Buffalo Springs Lake Fireworks Extravaganza - July 3, 2015

I was stopped at a stop light, looked over to the right and actually said out loud, "what the hell?"  I don't have a problem with fireworks and they're obviously open to get you ready for New Years Eve, but it just seemed weird. It just looked as normal as a dog in a scuba mask might.

The fact is that fireworks are actually legal from December 20th to January 1st, as well as the traditional June 24th through July 4th. Of course fireworks aren't legal in the city of Lubbock, but did you also know it is illegal to fire them off within 600 feet of a church, day-care center or school.  Shooting fireworks off in the city limits are supposed to carry a heavy fine, but I've never heard of anyone having to pay them.  Yes, to make a small political point, you most likely won't get in trouble for something that can blow your fingers off, but if you have a little pot, you're ass is going to county.  Priorities.
