Popular Gourmet Ice Cream Sold In Texas Recalled For Potentially Deadly Reason
A popular gourmet ice cream sold in Texas has recalled a batch of one the their flavors for a serious and potentially deadly reason: an undeclared ingredient.
And while that may not sound like a huge deal, anyone who has had a peanut allergy can assure you that it is a severe, potentially life-threatening ingredient for them.
Peanut allergy can cause a severe reaction called anaphylaxis, even if a previous reaction was mild. Anaphylaxis might start with some of the same symptoms as a less severe reaction, but can quickly get worse. The person may have trouble breathing or pass out. More than one part of the body might be involved. If it isn't treated, anaphylaxis can be life-threatening.
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream issued a voluntary recall of its Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll with "Lot no.: 24V094" located on the bottom of the package.
Interestingly, this only affects a total of 4 containers of ice cream, and it appears that a "mock case sample" somehow was released with regular distribution items.
While the chance that someone with a peanut allergy would get one of these four containers is low, it isn't impossible and again, it could be life-threatening.
If you find that you are in possession of one of the containers, please contact Van Leeuwen Ice Cream at Hello@VanLeeuwenIceCream.com for further instructions.
If you've never had Van Leeuwen ice cream, it is decadent, unique, and delicious, so don't let this recall turn you off of the brand. This particular recall seems like an unusual but honest mistake. Try the "Earl Grey" flavor- it's amazing.
