Would you like to garnish your potato salad with hard pieces of plastic? No?

I suppose that's understandable. It's a choking hazard and it's also disgusting to have "not food" mixed in with what you are eating.

A potato salad brand sold in Texas recently issued a voluntary recall, due to the potential of hard plastic pieces in the tubs. Hill Country Fare Mustard Potato Salad in the 3-pound size with a use-by date of "JUL/26/24" should not be eaten.

Reser's Fine Foods produced this item at a regional facility and distributed it to only H-E-B and Joe V’s Smart Shop locations in Texas. The recall does not affect other states or grocery outlets.

So far, no injuries have been reported, but you should also err on the side of caution when it comes to your food. If you purchased this item, you can return it to the store you bought it from for a full refund, or you should simply discard it.

Don't worry about any containers that are currently on the shelf, as all items affected by the recall have already been removed from stores.

If you have any questions about the recall, this is how you can contact the company:

Potato salad is already a controversial item when it comes to food safety, as it happens to be a near-perfect "petri dish" for foodborne illness if it isn't properly handled. The combination of proteins, starches, and low acidity make it yummy for us, but delicious for microorganisms.

Make sure you always properly wash your hands before serving or eating food, and always keep foods in their temperature-safe zones.

Top 10 Most Recalled Food Items & How To Stay Safe

The CDC estimates that 48 million people in the U.S. are infected by a food-borne illness every year, and an average of 3000 people even die.

These are the top 10 foods most likely to be recalled, according to Consumer Reports. However, that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy them if you take steps to stay safe.
