The Rainy Day Foods Every Lubbock Family Had Growing Up
There's something about a rainy day that makes me crave the foods I grew up eating.
Maybe it's because the rain forces you to slow down for a second. Maybe it's because we are trapped in our houses. Or maybe certain foods just taste better when it's cloudy outside and a little drizzly.
Whatever the case, most of us can remember eating at least one of these meals when rain clouds rolled through town.
Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup

This is the heavyweight champion of rainy day meals, and it costs basically nothing. Cheese. Bread. Can of soup. Lunch.
Cinnamon Toast

Before avocado toast came in and ruined things, we had cinnamon toast. It usually tastes best if your grandmother makes it, but you can do it yourself, in a pinch.
Totinos Party Pizzas

Why are these so much more delicious than they should be?
Seriously, if you haven't had them since you were 12, it's time to revisit Totinos.
Chicken and Dumplings

The stuff in the can is gross. This pretty much has to be made by your mom or your granny. Call them up and ask them for their recipe. It will make them feel special.
Chili-ghetti
Spoiler: It's spaghetti with chili instead of tomato sauce.
And it's glorious.
Bonus points if you add cheese. NOM CITY.

Frito Pie
Another excellent rainy day dish...or any day, for that matter. We love our frito pie in Lubbock.
Popcorn

You're home watching movies in the rain. Of course, you need popcorn! Rainy days and popcorn were made for one another.
