You can save a bunch of money on airfare and see the Eiffel Tower just down the road a piece (well, around six hours!) in Paris, Texas. The romance, of course, is up to you!

There are 15 places in America called Paris. And, according to Wikipedia, quite a few have tried to compete with the European destination by erecting some sort of Eiffel Tower.

Perhaps the biggest competition in the south was between Paris, Texas and Paris, Tennessee. They both erected Eiffel Tower replicas in 1993. Tennessee worked to best Texas in height.

This inspired Texas to top them by placing a big red Cowboy hat on top of ours. You've got to love Texas spirit. What could top this?

Well, when Las Vegas put up theirs, it was a whole different ballpark. It stood 540 feet tall versus our 65-foot-tall replica. How tall is the real deal in France? A whopping 984 feet!
