We've all seen it happen over and over, perhaps even in our own lives. Company A merges with Company B and, "nothing will change, we swear!"

Until something changes dramatically. Usually, people are let go, or whole locations are closed.

Because here's the thing: both companies were fully functioning entities, so with a merger will come redundancy, so most often companies will eventually do some pruning.

Six Flags, the iconic Texas-born amusement park giant merged with Cedar Park. Does this mean Texas will lose any amusement park locations?

According to Fox 2 News, a third-quarter report released by the new company, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (SFEC), indicated that closing parks could be a part of the company's long-term plan.

However, a park spokesperson, Gary Rhodes, stated that the company has no intention of closing any parks.

One park is being demolished, but only because it has been abandoned for 20 years. Six Flags New Orleans was flooded by Hurricane Katrina and never reopened.

A recent press release from SFEC announced that several parks are getting new rides and updates, including Hurricane Harbor in Arlington, Texas, which will get "the largest expansion in water park history."

Hurricane Harbor will be expanded to include a coastal-themed area with a 58K square foot multi-level interactive kids' play area. The park will add over a dozen new slides and a  "mini-tornado water slide" for braver guests.

Additionally, Hurricane Harbor will have more food and drink options and will bring back its participation in the iconic and beloved Fright Fest season.

For many of us in Texas, Six Flags is a big part of vacations and treasured family memories. Here's hoping there are many more memories to be made at these amusement parks.
