Things That Only Make Sense If You Grew Up In A Small West Texas Town
If you're from a little West Texas town like Brownfield, Littlefield, Levelland, Post, Slaton, Tahoka, Floydada, and dozens of others, chances are, you shared a few experiences that people from big cities will never quite understand.
Here is a list of things that only make sense to people who grew up in ultra-small West Texas towns:
Everybody Knew Your Parents
You couldn't get away with anything at all because everybody, and I mean, everybody, knew your parents.
Friday Night Football Was More Like A Holiday
It didn't just feel like another teenage sporting event.
The entire town showed up, even people with zero connection to the teams.
How much catching up can you really do with people who can't help but see every single day?
Directions Were Based on Buildings That No Longer Existed
"It's just on the other side of the old feed lot."
"Turn where the movie theater used to be."
None of those places exist anymore, but nobody is giving them up when it comes to directing traffic.

Cruising Was A Legitimate Activity
There was nowhere to go. Just drive around, listen to jams, and see who else is out doing the same. Simple fun.
Everybody Waves At Everybody Driving By
This one is hard to get used to if you aren't familiar with it. I remember seeing people waving at me the very first day I moved to a small town. I was very confused. Turns out, people are just friendly.
Everybody Had A Nickname
Bubba. Scooter. Red.
My friend's dad's nickname was "Tater."
It was always weird calling her dad that, but... it's what he wanted.
What about your small town?
I'm sure you can think of even more! Drop them in the comments below this article, and a big shout-out to all the small West Texas towns that jam us on the radio! We love you!
