The Social Security Administration has been compiling the top baby names for each year since 1997 with names dating back to 1880. The list is meant to reflect the top 10 boy and girl names from each year and also reveals how pop-culture has impacted the selection of baby names.

In 2018, names such as Meghan and Yara saw a marked jump due to inspiration ranging from royalty, as in Prince Harry's wife and American actress, Meghan Markle, to fictional characters from popular HBO series, Game of Thrones.
