Little Lubbock Things We Miss: Fountains At South Plains Mall

Our Mall Is A Modern, Thriving Shopping Experience

Beautifully bright and modern, our mall is home to luxury like Dillard's, trendy fun like Miniso, and popular standby favorites like Barnes & Noble. The addition of Premiere Cinemas a few years back helped anchor our mall as an entertainment destination. I also just love having a very large air-conditioned space to get some steps in, too.

Coming soon to the mall is a Crunch Fitness location and a Dick's House of Sports, further cementing the mall's staying power here in the Hub. Sure, there may be a few "gaps" of unsold retail spaces, but I have a feeling that with these two new very large editions, those places will become prime real estate once again.

But We Do Miss Some "Old Mall" Things

The two-story McDonald's. Taco Villa inside the mall (bring it back!). Wicks N' Sticks (even though it gave me a headache from the overwhelming fragrance). How warm the mall used to be (color palette, not temperature). And, of course, the lovely fountains. Thank you so much to my friend Richelle for sharing this lovely photo of her daughter by the fountain at the mall, but fair warning- it'll give you "pile of plushies at the Disney Store" levels of nostalgia:

This photo is from 2013, 13 years ago. Not only can you see (and perhaps remember the smell) of the fountain, you can see the live plants and the warm color palette of the mall in the background. You may remember that the floor tile was a warm brown, too.

You can also see the street sign that points to Bealls and Sears (r.i.p.) and the former location of Bath and Body Works, which is still going strong, just at another spot in the mall. It's such a lovely and cute photo! Thanks again to Richelle for sharing it.
