Although I was in Texas for the 2023 eclipse, I wasn't in the path of "totality" that stretched across our state.

It was still a magical experience, lying the the park with my eclipse viewer. It was a time of stillness, reflection, and appreciation for the cosmos which bore us. As I walked home, leaves cast crescent shadows on the concrete and I found myself struck by that simple beauty.

Even though the eclipse happened this past Fall, we are already near another total solar eclipse this Spring.

When is the 2024 total solar eclipse?

The eclipse with begin around 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, April 8th. "Totality" will happen around 1:30 p.m. if you are on the path, which cuts diagonally across our state. Of course, those outside of the path will still experience a partial eclipse.

Important: If you are planning to travel to a state park to see the total eclipse, you will need to have a pre-purchased day pass or camping permit for that park. Those reservations can be made here, up to a month in advance of the eclipse. Note: a state park pass does NOT guarantee entry during this time.

Remember, no matter where you are viewing the eclipse from, you need to protect your eyes and never look directly at the sun.

If you buy into the spiritual stuff, solar eclipses can symbolize a new beginning, and provide a source of exciting new energy. I'll take the opportunity to meditate on my place in the universe, even if I'm far from that path of magical noonday twilight.
