If you have ever been to the Texas State Fair, you have no doubt seen Big Tex in action. The 52 foot tall Tex greeted visitors to the fair with his Texas size friendly wave and that giant grin of a true Texan. For 60 years Big Tex has stood high above the fair grounds was known as a Texas sized icon.

Originally purchased in 1952 for a whooping $750.00 Big Tex became as much of an attraction at the fair as corndogs, funnel cake, and the Farris wheel.

Sadly today, Big Tex caught fire due to an electrical short located somewhere near his jaw. Now nothing but the huge metal frame work is left of this Texas treasure.

The state fair is scheduled to end this Sunday and fair representatives have assured visitors things will remain open until then despite the untimely demise of Big Tex.

Not to worry, fair officials already have plans to rebuild the giant icon for generations to enjoy!
