The principal of Hardin Junior High School in Liberty County, Texas was arrested yesterday for possessing graphic images of children on his cell phone and is now facing felony possession/promotion of child pornography charges.

A student reported 56-year-old Chad Barrett to their parents after he allegedly sent them an inappropriate video via social media. Investigators went to speak to Barrett at school to discuss the allegations and found him to be cooperative. They took a closer look at his cell phone and found several images containing child pornography.

The sheriff's office has asked that parents and students at the junior high please come forward if they have any further knowledge of this misconduct.

The district put out a statement regarding the incident:

"On November 13, 2024, the Hardin Independent School District was notified of allegations of inappropriate communication with a student by a district employee.

The District has been in direct contact with law enforcement and is assisting in an investigation. We are deeply troubled by this report and have zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior and expect all district employees to adhere to the highest standards of conduct. The employee has been removed from school grounds and placed on administrative leave."

Please take this as a reminder to talk to our kids about what is and what is not appropriate behavior between adults and children. It can be scary to tell the truth when you are young and afraid. Make sure you have an open line of communication with your kids so that if something like that ever happens to them, they will have the courage and confidence to tell you.
