Texas: Should You Be Worried About The ‘Dunkin Donut’ Recall?
Nearly 2 million donuts from Dunkin' and other brands have been recalled due to concerns of Listeria contamination.
That sounds pretty serious and dramatic, but does that mean you should skip the donut drive-thru?
Do-Nut Deny Yourself A Treat
Unless you are eating an extremely stale donut, go ahead and get your Dunkin' fix.
The recall only concerns products manufactured before Dec. 13, 2024. The initial recall, which didn't make such splashy headlines, was January 7th.
In other words, the donuts currently at Dunkin' (and other donut places that use the same facility) are just as safe as they usually are.
If you are thinking about gnawing on a very ancient donut, you can check this list to see if you might give yourself Listeria (in addition to whatever else has grown on your elderly treat).
Why Is It In The News Now
Good question! That's because it wasn't classified as Class II recall until very recently.
According to the Department of Public Heath a Class II recalls, "are issued on products that have a lower chance of causing major injuries or death, but where there is still the possibility of serious enough adverse events to have irreversible consequences."
Listeria is a serious pathogen that can seriously hurt immunocompromised people. It is important to note, however, that it was the facility that tested positive for Listeria during a routine inspection, not reports from the public getting sick that issued the recall.
So there may have never been a Listeria donut at any Dunkin'. And they have cute heart-shaped donuts right now. You deserve a treat.
