Texas Skies Lit Up By Perseid Meteor Showers
I have to admit, waiting around for "shooting stars" can be a bit boring.
Space Rookie!
Don't think for a moment that your dealing with an expert astronomer here. I was in fact, today years old when I found out that these meteor showers were actually particles ejected by a comet. I always thought they were their own thing and did not know that they are part of a larger celestial event. In this case, the "Perseid" meteor showers are actually space stuff flying off the Swift-Tuttle comet.
Waiting On Showers
Trying to spot these meteor showers can be a bit taxing. Light pollution is a big problem with a lot of the city areas shining too brightly for most of us to get a good look. The next biggest problems have to do with who were are as humans, and just waiting around is not in the cards for many of us. I should also mention that these events happen very quickly and sometimes a person is not even 100% sure they saw something when it happens.
Caught On Film!
While it doesn't have the excitement of the real experience, someone captured the light show of this years meteor showers. Now you'll have an idea of what happened, what to look for, and what you're missing. I have to say, it's pretty darn spectacular through this particular videographers lens. It's more than enough to make you deal with a little boredom and see if there's any activity tonight (the showers peaked a few days ago but you might have some luck). Check out the video from Reddit:
