Texas Tech Football Takes Its Big 12 Trolling Game to the Next Level
Texas Tech is leaning into controversy surrounding the football team's upset win over Iowa State, and we're 100 percent here for it.
The day after the Big 12 suspended the university's radio announcers Brian Jensen and John Harris from calling the Texas Tech-Oklahoma State game for remarks they made during the Iowa State game, a new Facebook post on the program's official football Facebook page touts an important record that was broken during the Iowa State game. It also expertly fires a shot across the Big 12 Conference's bow.
You can see the Facebook post below:
Of course, Texas Tech Football has earned this opportunity to flex its impressive trolling muscle only due to two things that went their way: Kicker Jonathan Garibay is an absolute beast who booted a 62-yard field goal against Iowa State to secure the record for longest game-winning field goal in FBS history, and the fallout surrounding the Big 12 refs' widely criticized officiating at the game.
To its credit, this isn't even the first time Texas Tech Football has taken a subtle jab at the controversial officiating at that game. If you still aren't sure if the refs really were that bad, there’s photographic evidence of a call they made saying this wasn't a catch. I mean, a picture is worth a thousand words, right?
While this game will be talked about for years to come, the support from all this drama has really showed how much this university and program means to the school, town and alumni. People from all over are stepping up to voice their opinions and have every team member and announcers back.
On the team's official social media channels, they celebrated the win with the following status update:
"...can't be overturned." " Upon further review..." We see what you're doing, Texas Tech, and we love it. So should fans. This type of underdog mentality, it's us against the world, is one thing that can do wonders to motivate the fanbase. Another thing that can do that? Winning. I mean if the celebration from these videos don't show you have invested everyone is, then nothing will.
The Cowboys are 10.5-point favorites heading into the Red Raiders' penultimate game of the 2021 season. Texas Tech is currently 6-4. The best-case end of their season would be 8-4, which would be the team's best record since 2009 under the pirate Mike Leach. That's something "Sensitive" Senator Tommy Tuberville, Kliff Kingsbury and Matt Wells couldn't accomplish during their head coaching stints with the team.
Are the stars aligning for Texas Tech to close out the season beating two top Big 12 teams in Oklahoma State and Baylor? Has head coach Sonny Cumbie's pumpjack mentality really shifted the team's mentality? One thing's for sure: the newly-dubbed Outlaw Student Sections 22 and 23 will be there to show OSU and the whole country what happens when you mess with Texas Texas on Saturday, November 20th in what could be a night game for the ages.
