The Red Raiders were 3-0 heading to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. They opened up against the Creighton Blue Jays in game one of the tournament and it went well for Texas Tech through the first half, but the second half was all Creighton with a final of 76-65.

The Blue Jays were just too big for Texas Tech in the post defensively and the Blue Jays hit too many contested shots against Texas Tech on the other end of the floor for the Red Raiders to hang.

The second day of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational begins with Texas Tech taking on Louisville at 1:30 pm on Tuesday with both teams trying to bounce back after opening-round losses at the Lahaina Civic Center. The Lousiville Cardinals fell 80-54 to Arkansas on Monday in Maui after starting their season with three straight one-point losses.

That pits the Red Raiders and Cardinals in a matchup in game two. Creighton and Arkansas will play each other in the winners' bracket.

If Texas Tech beats Louisville they'll play the winner between Ohio State and either Arizona or Cincinnati.

The Texas Tech basketball squad can take a lot of lessons from their first loss of the season. Both Jaylon Tyson and Kevin Obanor will need bounce-back games in Maui, even after scoring 10 and 9 points respectively they both left plenty of plays on the court. Texas Tech's best player on Monday was Daniel Batcho who finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

Pop Isaacs also had a great game making four of five three-pointers and finishing with 13 points.

If Texas Tech wants to win the next two games of the Maui Invitational then they'll have to be more aggressive on offense against the next two opponents.
