Texas Tech Police Detain, Release ‘Suspicious’ Person a Day After Shooting Threat
Texas Tech Police have released more information regarding the threat made against Texas Tech University.
The written threat was discovered on a bathroom wall in Holden Hall. The message, written with a black sharpie says, “I’m going to shoot up the school on October 5th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.” Texas Tech officers detained a suspicious person near Holden Hall around 11:30 a.m. The person was later released after they were determined not to be a threat.
There were no reports of any disturbances at any buildings at Texas Tech.
Ironically, the threat was discovered on Thursday (Oct. 4), after a campus-wide evacuation was issued by accident. The false alarm was sent out at 1:03 p.m. on the Tech Alert emergency communications system; it was quickly rescinded less than 10 minutes later at 1:12 p.m.
No actual evacuation of the Texas Tech campus took place.
