Dispatchers in Brazoria County received a "life-saving text" from a woman being abducted. Unable to make a phone call to authorities, she texted 9-1-1 and told them that she was being held against her will in a moving vehicle by a man named George Peters and that he was also under the influence and had threatened to kill her.

Cops were able to track them down and arrested Peters for unlawful restraint, terroristic threat to a family, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and DWI. They saved the woman's life because of her ability to contact emergency services through a text message.

You would think that texting the authorities would be available to everyone across the United States, but the life-saving service is still only provided in certain areas.

If you're curious whether or not you can text the authorities in your area, you can find a complete spreadsheet, updated monthly, right here.

I'm shocked how many parts of Texas still don't offer Text-to-911.

Did you check out the list? Is texting 911 available in your city? If not, do you think it should be? Hopefully, it will be available everywhere in the United States before too long. Thank goodness it worked in the area the woman was in when she was abducted. Imagine what could have happened without it.
