This Middle-of-Nowhere Texas Town Inspired The Disney Movie “Cars”
Did you know the tiny town of Shamrock, located just outside of Amarillo, inspired several portions of the Disney movie Cars?
The quaint town of Shamrock is only a hop, skip, and jump away from us here in Lubbock, and is known for its abundance of tourist attractions, Southern charm, and quirky vibes.
The small community was the muse behind many scenes from one of your kid's favorite films, set along historic Route 66, now known as I-40. It's a town you don't usually wind up in unless you're in the 'know', and even though the population is less than 2000, it's still a tourist hotspot.
You may even remember the epilogue scene that features jagged red mountainous peaks. Did you ever notice how much they resemble the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo? That wasn't by accident.
Visitors drive for miles for a chance to add their tags to Cadillac Ranch with a can of spray paint, wander through the visitor's center (some of which is fittingly dedicated to memorabilia from the film Cars), and take a look at the famous U-Drop Inn. This old gas station dates back to 1936.
I'm planning a trip to Shamrock soon to see what all the fuss is about. Have you ever been? I'd love to hear your favorite things to do there! Let me know in a comment on this article, or you can reach me at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com. Let me know what I should keep my eyes peeled for!
