Tony Todd, the Original ‘Candyman,’ to Appear at Lubbock’s Premiere Cinemas
Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman... Would you dare say it the fifth time? As a kid, I definitely would not have, as Candyman was the scariest thing I'd ever seen.
Tony Todd, the actor who played the Candyman, did such an incredibly convincing job at portraying this horror character that images of him stuck with me forever, particularly the scene in which bees swarm inside his mouth. As an adult, I found out those were real bees, really inside his mouth, and now I'm even more horrified. What a legend.
Tony Todd will be appearing at Lubbock's Premiere Cinemas for a special showing of his newest starring role in a movie called Destination Marfa. It's a science fiction/horror film that takes place in West Texas. The film won Best Horror Film at the Manhattan Film Festival, and I'm thrilled to see it.
Here's the description of it:
While on a road trip from a long weekend at the Terlingua cookoff, four lifelong friends decide to veer off road and venture into a small West Texas town known as Marfa. What attracted them to do so? Could it be the strange unexplained ghost lights that Marfa is known for?
Todd is a very prolific actor and is also known for his roles in The Rock, The Crow, The Man From Earth, Riverdale, the Final Destination films and more. He's also a prolific voice actor for cartoons and video games. He is also in the new Candyman, written in part by the best horror director of our generation, Jordan Peele (Us, Get Out).
The Red Carpet Meet & Greet with cast and crew will begin at 6:15 p.m. on July 20th, 2021, followed by the premiere screening of Destination Marfa at 7 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Q& A with director Andy Stapp. An encore screening will be shown at 9 p.m. that night.
Special ticket packages for this event are available at the Premiere Theaters website or at the box office. I would guess this event will sell out quickly, so buy your tickets early.
