Two Elected Officials in Slaton Pass Away, Including Mayor Englund
The City of Slaton has lost two elected officials, over the past week, in unrelated deaths.
Slaton Mayor D.W. “Dubbin” Englund died Tuesday, May, 28, 2019, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Mayor Englund was first elected Mayor of Slaton in 2009; he passed away after a brief illness at age 70.
Also, passing away last week, Thursday, May 23, 2019, was Slaton City Commissioner James “Buster” Tucker. Tucker was 75 years old, he served on the Slaton City Council for over 20 years and was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Lubbock.
According to the City of Slaton, Lynn Nowlin will serve as Slaton’s Mayor Pro-Tem and Benny Lopez and Weldon Self will serve as city commissioners.
The two vacancies will be filled during the November election, and Mike Lamberson will remain as Slaton’s City Administrator.
All Slaton city offices will be closed Thursday, May 30, at 2 pm for Mayor Englund's Funeral and Friday, May 31, at 2 pm for Commissioner Tucker's Memorial Service.
