School’s out for summer! While the phrase may come as welcome, it also means as a parent there are a lot more meals and snacks needed. While it can be easy to head straight to the junk food aisle, there are many healthy options you should consider when prepping for your next summer adventure.

Some summer snacks United Supermarkets corporate dietitian Brenda Garcia recommends are Sahale Cashew clusters, Clif Bar Nut Butter Bars, Tillamook Beef Jerky (and cheese), and RIND dried fruits. You can read more about each of the snacks and their nutritional value by visiting the Happy + Nourished blog by United Supermarkets.

Another snack you might not think of right away for children that has a dual purpose is watermelon. Aside from having a reasonable sticker price, watermelon is comprised of more than 90 percent water, which means it can help keep everyone full and hydrated.

One key to staying hydrated in scorching temperatures is paying attention to what you are drinking. While it might be easy to grab a Coke, drinking something without caffeine, like water or decaffeinated tea, will keep you hydrated longer. It’ll also help you feel better if you’re outside in the sun for an extended period of time.
