Kids will be kids, and I truly believe that we should grant them grace, patience, and kindness whenever possible. However, an obnoxious kid in a public setting can really ruin the experience for everyone.

California Restaurant Adopts Strict "Bad Behavior" Policy

Chez Xue, voted "Best Restaurant" in Foster City, California, recently went viral for this policy that "children remain seated at all times, [and] be respectful of fellow guests and the dining environment." It goes on to say that loud or destructive children will not be permitted to remain in the restaurant, and that parents will be charged for any damage their children cause. The restaurant had recently had a string of broken or vandalized items caused by unruly children.

Of course, some people took offense. However, it seems like the overwhelming majority of people are in full support of the policy. But should any Lubbock restaurants take this stance? Perhaps.

Why Bad Kids Are A Bad Problem At Restaurants

Ask any friend you have who waits tables in Lubbock- they probably all have horror stories involving naughty kids. Kids left to run around create a dangerous hazard for servers holding hot and heavy plates. And the table that lets their child drop all their food on the floor? They probably tipped less than 10%.

Yes, every single child has their moments, and some children have special needs that may cause some outbursts. No one is talking about little hiccups or unavoidable issues. What gets under people's skin are children who are being entitled and naughty, and the parents who can't be bothered to control them.
