I've never seen the sun look so pink, and neither had resident Nick Harpster when he snagged a video and some photos of the sun shining over Lubbock, Texas Sunday morning, September 12th, 2021.

Hot Pink Sun Over Lubbock

So, why did the sun appear hot pink?

According to EarthEclipse.com, this phenomenon is caused by things like atmospheric gas, dust particles, water droplets, as well as aerosols suspended in the air. Where more aerosols and smog exist, pink and purple sunrises and sunsets are more prevalent. While it may be beautiful and interesting to behold, it's caused by pollution. What a total bummer.

Well, I'd just rather never ever even see beauty again."

There are a few simple ways that you can help to combat the pollution problem that our world is facing without making major changes in your day-to-day life. For example, carpooling to work with someone you share the same schedule with can make a small impact. If everyone gets on board with carpooling, we could make a HUGE difference, especially in West Texas where gas-guzzling trucks reign supreme. Plus, having your friends and co-workers chauffeur you around is awesome. You can fix your makeup and hair while they drive and sleep in a little later. Win-win.

If you have the means to get yourself into a more fuel-efficient vehicle, that will also make a lasting impact. They can be a bit pricey, but it's worth it to know that you are helping to leave this world a better place for your children. There's not much more we can do on earth than try to keep the ball rolling. It's a game we all play, and if we become more mindful of the things we are doing that are screwing with it, maybe we can slow this crash course down.

Reducing the use of your fireplace or wood-burning stove is also helpful, as well as discontinuing burn piles of trash, leaves and other materials when possible. I know country life has us thinking we can just burn a heap of junk out in the middle of nowhere and it won't matter, but the smoke doesn't just simply go away.

Also, stop eating so much cheese. Your farts are probably not helping. Just a thought.

Can You Guess These Towns From Their Satellite Photos?

I'm always down for a good brain challenge. This one however got the best of me.
It's always a fun time looking up address or cities and seeing them from a satellite point of view. You start pointing out landmarks and things you recognize.

One thing you don't account for however is something looking bigger or smaller than you seemed to think it was. So we started grabbing a bunch of these satellite pictures of cities and towns around Amarillo.

As we looked at them, we thought to ourselves, "how fun would this be to actually have to GUESS what these places are?". So away we went.

Go ahead and try to see how many you can guess correctly!
