Lubbock, Texas residents spotted a very unique cloud Wednesday afternoon.

Possible Tornado Sighting In Lubbock, Texas

I was walking the bestest dog ever, Mr., Apollo, when the skies started to turn dark. Having had to take our walk in the rain the day prior, I was keeping my eyes to the skies to see if I needed to rush along. As we circled the block and neared the homestead I saw one of those "Uh-oh Cloud Formations" (Not an actual meteorological term).

Texas Town Feels Nature's Fury (and Disdain) From Above

Here in West Texas, we know if it's hot and moist, we could see tornados, or more frequently hail. Most of us think of tornados as something that happen to someone else, but we ALL have had experiences with hail. Pea size hail is very, very common here and larger sizes aren't that uncommon. Is Shallowater, Texas the Target of Unhappy Clouds?

I ended up spotting what I though was the clearest example of a tornado about to form that I've ever seen. The swirly bit looked like it was giving Shallowater, Texas the middle finger. While I'm certain that even the clouds would rather not be in Shallowater, I found the idea hilarious. I ran in to get the wife, who then had me run in to take a picture.

Shallowater's Skies-A Town Under a Cloudy Curse

After documenting Mr. Cloud's middle appendage, we thought we'd better turn on the TV and see what our favorite weather experts had to say. They said the "finger" was just a land spout and that it "didn't have the rotation" to become a tornado. This was good news to us and gave me time to clean out my pants before I went back for a second look, at which point it had already retracted back into the clouds.

It's Texas Tornado Weather

In all seriousness, we're glad everyone is okay and we've seen no damage reported. Please keep an eye to the sky this time of the year because things can get pretty dangerous really fast. Rely on your local weather experts who have fantastic tools to watch these things. Also, please, just take a couple minutes and figure out where to go and what to do if a tornado is imminent.
