The Quiet Confidence Of Women Growing Up In West Texas
Growing up in West Texas quietly turns women into survival experts. Not in an extreme, off-the-grid way, but in a practical, emotionally resilient, “I’ve got this handled” way that sneaks up on you over time. It's true. I'm 36, and I'm realizing it more and more every single day.
We're Easily Adaptable
Texas women learn early how to adapt. Weather alone demands it. You can wake up freezing, end the day sweating, and still be expected to look presentable. You learn how to layer, improvise, and accept that some days your hair just isn’t going to win, and that’s fine. You rock that ridiculous hairdo, and nobody is going to say a thing to you, because...well...you could take them. You know. They know it.
We Don't Need You
There’s also a deep, unspoken education in self-reliance. Texas women are problem solvers by necessity. You figure things out. You make do. You don’t panic when plans change or something breaks. You assess, adjust, and move forward without making a scene about it. Also, we have to put up with some of the ickiest men in the world, I swear! Especially when it comes to us "belongin the kitchen" or whatever other traditional nonsense has been passed down between the generations. We know our worth, and YOU don't dictate it.

We Sense Danger
Which brings me to another incredibly important skill: reading people and situations fast. Whether it’s navigating small talk, feeling out a room, or knowing when to leave, Texas women develop strong instincts. You learn how to be polite without being a pushover, friendly without oversharing, and firm without apologizing for it.
Beauty and Brawn
You see, there’s physical toughness paired with emotional control. Heat, long days, hard work, and expectations don’t get constant commentary. They just get managed. You learn endurance without needing praise for it, and rightfully so.
Your Opinions Don't Sway Us
But maybe the most important survival skill Texas women pick up is confidence that doesn’t need approval. It’s quiet, steady, and unshakeable. You don’t announce it. You just show up, handle what needs handling, and keep going.
We're Powerful AND Beautiful (And We Know It)
Growing up tough in Texas doesn’t make women hard. It makes them capable, and to me, that might be the most powerful skill of all. So, ladies, walk in the room like you own it, because you might as well. Texas women are terrifyingly fabulous. Don't shy away from the way things are, the way things were, or the way people say things should be. Embrace it full force and friggin' fly with it.
