Last night was a fun time to be in Lubbock, Texas. I had a great meal at Dirk's Chicken (1636 13th St) an absolute must-try here in Lubbock, featuring the art of cartoonist and former Lubbock mayor Dirk West. As I sipped my pecan pie old-fashioned (it really tastes like pecan pie!) we watched the Texas Tech vs. TCU game. Winning the game was great, but a possum running amok on the field was a treat, too.

Watch videos of the possum going nuts here.

The possum, like any unruly fan who storms the field, was escorted out of the stadium. However, he was a hit with fans and many now see him as a good luck charm, considering we won the game. So what happened to this little critter?

My dad, who loves to annoy me, was successful in making me squirm. He kept saying, "This is West Texas, do you think they just set him free?" I booed him as I walked away, and I did let myself get a little nervous about the possum's fate. I want the best for the little guy because I am both a total softy for animals and because I've read The Rime of The Ancient Mariner, so I KNOW you never kill a good-luck animal.

My worries were misplaced, and I have good news to report. The Lubbock Animal Shelter let our boy loose to have more trash kitty adventures around Lubbock.

May the possum's blessing be bestowed upon us, so that we may continue to WRECK EM the rest of the season.
