I usually go with a fake tree for Christmas to save myself from cleaning up fallen pine needles, but I was thinking maybe this year would be the year I actually get a real tree.

So, where can you go in Texas to cut down your own tree?

The Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association allows Texans to pick out their tree and then chop it down themselves. It might be a fun activity for you and your kiddos. There are dozens of tree farms in Texas to choose from, and you can find a handy list by clicking here.

Also, in the U.S. it is legal for you to go out into a national forest and chop down your tree if you buy a Christmas tree permit beforehand. Texans, however, won't be able to find any national forests to choose a tree from. We just don't have any. Luckily, we still have all of the tree farms! If you're feeling frisky, you could drive to New Mexico or Arizona to find one, but that seems a bit out of the way to go just to cut down a tree.

Do you plan on having a real Christmas tree this year? Do you have any tips you'd like to share with me? I'd love to feature you in an upcoming article. Feel free to email me at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com if you know the secret to keeping your real Christmas tree beautiful and less messy! I'm all ears.
