I've seen this a hundred times with shows. There is a poor turnout so they postpone the start to "wait for people to get there". This never turns out well and frequently means just a dribble of extra folks if any at all.

Along the same lines, Lubbock's 4th On Broadway just re-issued a call for volunteers and extended the sign up period for vendors. This could be a very troubling sign for the event.

It's true that 4th On Broadway got a late start. The fact is, with an event this big, you start preparing for the next event the day after you did the last one, or even before that. You can have commitments that go a year or even several years back.

With Broadway Festivals out of the picture, the City had to scramble and pull in some resources and organizations in order to have some semblance of the 4th On Broadway celebration continue. I said "some semblance" because the iconic music tents don't appear to be a part of this years event.

Personally, I feel like it's the high fees and high restrictions keeping vendors from signing up. A quick look at the food vending enter form shows that you'd need to have over $600 for the fee and $500,000 in general liability insurance for that day to even consider putting on a booth. Plus, you 100% cannot sell drinks. That's a lot of money to make up, and if it rains, oh, well.

My guess is that 4th On Broadway will be okay, it's just going to be very different. This is a whole new group of people that need to find their footing. All it's going to take is one slammed event, then folks will probably be lining up to participate.
